Breath direction is half of the map. Once you know which notes are blow and which notes are draw, scale practice becomes much less random.

The basic breath pattern

In each four-hole block, blow gives the chord-like notes C, E, G, C. Draw fills the scale with D, F, A, B.

Why F and B are draw notes

F and B are often where beginners hesitate. On a C chromatic harmonica, both are draw notes in the middle octave.

Use breath direction as a rhythm cue

When a scale run feels uneven, speak the breath pattern before playing it. Blow, draw, blow, draw is easier to remember than note names alone.

FAQ

Are all draw notes lower than blow notes?

No. Draw notes fill the scale between blow notes, and the exact pitch depends on the hole.

Does slide change blow into draw?

No. Slide changes pitch by one semitone. Breath direction stays blow or draw.

Why is B draw and C blow in the same hole group?

That layout creates a complete major scale inside each four-hole Solo tuning block.
