Chromatic Harmonica Scales Chart

A scales chart connects music theory to the physical harmonica map: the note names, the slide notes, and the holes you need for each key.

The major scale formula

Every major scale uses the same interval formula. On chromatic harmonica, that means you can learn the note sequence first, then locate each note on the chart.

WholeWholeHalfWholeWholeWholeHalf

First three keys to chart

C major teaches the no-slide map. G major adds F#. F major adds Bb. Those three keys give beginners a clean path into slide control.

  • C major: C D E F G A B C
  • G major: G A B C D E F# G
  • F major: F G A Bb C D E F

Turn notes into holes

After you know the scale notes, use the note chart or scale trainer to find the hole, breath direction, and slide position. Keep the chart visible until the movement is automatic.

FAQ

Can one C chromatic harmonica play every scale?

Yes. A C chromatic harmonica can play all 12 major scales because the slide supplies the missing semitones.

Should a scales chart show notes or tabs?

Both are useful. Note names show the musical scale; tabs show the physical route on the instrument.

Which scale should I learn after C major?

G major and F major are good next steps because each introduces only one altered note.
